简介： Nevershortofprojects,RodrigueJeanhasbeenactiveoneverycreativefront.Currently,heisafilmdirector,writerandproducer.Inthe1980s,followingstudiesinbiology,sociologyandliterature,hebeganworkinginliveperformanceasadancerandchoreographer.In1989,heturnedtofilmmaking,andhisfirstshortfilm,LaDéroute,wasbasedonchoreographyfromhisdancecompany,LesProductionsdel’Os.Inthe1990s,hereceivedagrantfromtheCanadaCouncilfortheArtstostudychoreographyandtheatredirectinginLondon,wherehediscoveredtheworldsofShakespeare,JeanGenetandBradFraser.BackinNewBrunswick,hefoundedthefilmandvideoproductionhouseTransmarFilms.
RodrigueJeanthenmadetwodocumentaries:LaVoixdesrivièresin1995,winneroftheTelefilmCanadaPrizeforBestMedium-LengthCanadianfilmattheFestivalInternationalduCinémaFrancophoneenAcadie;andin1996,LaMémoiredel’eau,aprizewinnerattheAtlanticFilmFestivalinHalifax.Hefollowedthesewithtwocriticallyacclaimedfictionfilmsthatwereequallypopularwithaudiences:FullBlast,co-producedbyFilmsdel’IsleandTransmarFilms,whichwonaSpecialJuryCitationatTIFFin1999,andYellowknife,aco-productionforthefirsttimebetweenthreeCanadianprovinces(NewBrunswick,QuebecandManitoba),winneroftheawardforBestQuebecFilmof2002aschosenbyfilmcritics(theAQCC).
StayingclosetohisAcadianroots,RodrigueJeanpaidtributetopoetGéraldLeblancinhis2005documentaryL’ExtrêmeFrontière,anNFBproductionselectedatFICFAinMonctonandtheFestivalduNouveauCinémainMontreal.In2006,hereturnedtothemilieuofsexworkersanddrugaddicts,aculturehewasfamiliarwithfromhistimeinLondon,whereheledvideoworkshopsatacentreforstreetkids.Theresultingfilm,MenforSale,isahard-hittingdocumentaryaboutmalehustlersthatchallengesourindifferencetothoserelegatedtothefringesofs
