Will Doug get to take Patti to the Valentine's Day dance? 这部电视影集最早是由 Nickelodeon 于１９９１年所推出的，在迪士尼１９９６年买下其制片公司 Jumbo Pictures 之后，全新的【阿德日记】开始于美国迪士尼ＡＢＣ电视台的“Disney's One Saturday Morning”时段推出，影集的主角是一个喜欢作白日梦的少年 Doug，内容就是以他的眼光来看他生活周遭的一切事物。本影集在美国推出很受欢迎，更衍生出一系列受欢迎的读物，因此才有推出电影版的打算。当初制作本片，原本只是想要直接发行录影带，但是到了１９９９年１月时，迪士尼才决定本片要在大萤幕推出，本片剧情的内容是Doug 一次“生活上的冒险”，一方面他想邀心仪许久的女孩 Patti 去参加情人节舞会，却偏偏发现一位学校高年级的酷哥是他的情敌；另一方面他最要好的朋友Skeeter 却在此时发现“幸运鸭湖”边的怪物传说是真实的，邀他一同前往湖边去探险，且看我们这位具有丰富想像力的主人翁，该如何面对他生活中大冒险！
