After repeated victories against the Spanish, he must try and save the Philippines from the Americans. Rather than portraying him as a dignified leader, it focuses on his human afflictions against the beautiful landscape of the Philippines. Winner of Cannes Film Festival, director Raymond Red carves Filipino identity into Sakay who breathes with his own native land in this second feature from his ‘Filipino independence trilogy.’
